New in Czech!
Michal Selinger
Exhibition of documentary photos of contemporary czech theatre by Michal Selinger. This exhibition presents thirty documentary photos of the most interesting new Czech performances from the field of physical, dance, visual, interactive, vocal, non-verbal and cross-over theatre as presented at the festival "Small Inventory" in February 2006 in Prague.
The Small Inventory Festival is a unique showcase of New Theatre, featuring the most interesting projects created over the last year. The fourth annual Small Inventory Festival offered a manifold program: more than 18 performance projects on six Prague stages. The initiator of the festival is the MOTUS association, producers of the Alfred ve dvoře Theatre, where the year's best works on this stage was presented as part of the festival. The festival is also presented at the Archa Theatre, the NoD Universal Space, NABLÍZKO Theatre, the Eliade Library in Divadlo Zábradlí and in the Duncan Centre. The Small Inventory is a part of New Web (Nová síť), a project that aims for the decentralisation and distribution of projects in the field of independent scenic work.
Artists presented include: Stage Code, Petr Nikl, Lhotákova&Soukup, Handa Gote, Skutr, Krepsko, Anna Synková, Daniela Klimešová, Vojta Švejda, Jan Beneš-McGadie.
The exhibit contains 30 (40cm X 60 cm) photographs dry-mounted on sponge board, and are ready for hanging.
The exhibit also contains DVD of contemporary Czech performances, which can be used as an on-hands element to the exhibit, and the New Web catalogue of the promoted performances.
Organized by The Theatre Institute Prague in cooperation with Small Inventory and New Web Association.

Between Documentation and Fine Arts
Viktor Kronbauer, Bohdan Holomíček, Josef Ptáček
The exhibit will present three of the most famous contemporary Czech theatre photographers. Perhaps it is no surprise, but all of them belong to the same generation: Josef Ptáček (1946), Bohdan Holomíček (1943) and Viktor Kronbauer (1949). Their works need not only be interpreted as individual pieces of art; they can also be considered as something between a creative work of art and important documentary fragments.

With his own characteristic signature, Josef Ptáček has gained his reputation in the field of colour photography, whereas audiences associate the names of Viktor Kronbauer and Bohdan Holomíček with black and white photography. Like Josef Ptáček, these two prominent Czech theatre photographers also have many awards to their credit - including most recently Viktor Kronbauer´s two gold medals that he received during the 2005 International Theatre in Photographic Art Triennale in Noví Sad. Over the course of the past two years, however, all three have accordingly reoriented themselves from conventional photography to the more progressive "digital photography". Have they been successful in this radical conversion? Our exhibition is the answer to that question. Josef Ptáček and Viktor Kronbauer will be present 30 photographs (measuring 80X60cm), and Bohdan Homolíček will be presented in the multimedia project, entitled Bohdan and Eva H., where he collaborated with computer artist Eva Hrubá. Photo taken from the production of Meine Schneekönigin (from Frank Castorf) staged by the Volksbühne in Berlin, foto: Viktor Kronbauer.

Artistic Interpretation of the Plays of Václav Havel
(During the seminar Václav Havel: Drama about Drama)

The exhibition poses the question: How did the plays of Václav Havel inspire the stage designers of other European countries? Most of these recaptured productions were staged before 1989, and offer an interesting glance into the fantasy of the scenographers, into their interpretation of the world behind the iron curtain. The exhibit contains several panels of photographs, posters, excerpts of translations, and models of set designs. Photo taken from the production of Die Sanierung (Redevelopment) staged by the Städtliche Bühnen Erfurt in 1990.
