Conference and Exhibition in Berlin Celegrating the 70th Birthday of Václav HavelPress Release (Prague, October 5, 2006) - Celebrations commemorating Václav Havel´s 70th birthday will take place at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele in Berlin on October 6 and 7 2006. The celebrations will include a conference entitled "Václav Havel in Theatre (and Politics) - Václav Havel in Theater (und Politik)", that is organized by the Czech Centre in Berlin, in cooperation with the Theatre Institute in Prague, the Robert Bosch Stiftung, the German Centre ITI and the Dramaturgical Society in Berlin. Guests of the conference will include professionals and personalities who have are well-educated in the successes of Havel´s career. The guests include among others Anna Freimanová, theatre director Andrej Krob and author Karel Hvížďala. The programme will conclude with a concert of the Plastic People of the Universe. To accompany the conference, the Theatre Institute in Prague has created the exhibit, The Scenographic Interpretation of Havel Plays (Die bühnebildnerische Interpretation der Theaterstücke von Václav Havel)". Curator Helena Albertová has succeeded in demonstrating how the plays of Václav Havel have inspired stage designers from all over the world. Most of these recaptured productions were staged before 1989, and offer an interesting glance into the fantasy of the scenographers, into their interpretation of the world behind the iron curtain. The exhibit contains several panels of photographs, posters, excerpts of translations, and models of set designs. The conference and exhibition in Berlin are a part of the project Invasion of Europe 2006 with the aim of presenting Czech theatre in many European cities. The project is organized by the organized by the Theatre Institute in Prague with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, the City of Prague, and in cooperation with the Czech Centres.
